Concerned that a law requiring the placement of license plate magnets on young drivers’ cars could put them at risk, Assemblyman Bob Schroeder of the 39th district has sponsored a bill calling for the immediate repeal of the requirement.
Schroeder says the magnets will alert criminals to vulnerable young drivers. “Ultimately, my concern is that young female drivers could be the target of sex offenders. This could put them more at risk,” he said. “I’ve heard cases where a young woman parked her car outside a shopping center and guys would wait around the car until she came back. It’s not safe.”
