DE SOTO, Kan. (AP) — Johnson County sheriff’s deputies have found a severely malnourished 6-year-old boy in the attic of his home after arresting his mother on an outstanding warrant.

He was a fat-cheeked little boy with a shock of thick black hair and an impudent grin. And like too many other aboriginal children in this province, he died while in the “care and protection” of Alberta Children and Youth Services, killed by his government-appointed foster father in November 2005 at the age of 13 months.
