RGJ.com: For some families, every day is Grandparents Day
Some 5.7 million U.S. grandparents have their grandchildren younger than age 18 living with them, says a 2005 American Community survey in a Poynter Institute newsletter. About 2.5 million of them are responsible for the basic needs of one or more of those grandchildren. Nearly 500,000 of those grandparents live below the poverty level.
