CASA (Fort Bend, TX) Gala Imagines the Places We Will Go

Child Advocates of Fort Bend (CAFB) invites you to grab your hat and your best bowtie for an evening of “whomple & floober and sneetch” as the Eighth Annual CASA Gala for the Children travels to the fanciful land of Seuss on April 12, 2008. “From there to here, from here to there, funny things (will be) everywhere, ” at the Sugar Land Town Center Marriott creating an adult voice for children whose lives have been torn apart by abuse and neglect.
The event promises to be an evening filled with mischief and whimsy that will enchant, inspire and delight while reminding everyone of Dr. Seuss’ words that “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
“The CASA Gala has raised more than 1.2 million dollars for our smallest victims in the last seven years, and the committee looks forward to another successful event in 2008,” according to Gala Chair Sharla Sturgeon.
Presented by Memorial Hermann Sugar Land, Founders Bank and Westport, Inc., the CASA Gala for the Children will feature as emcee Houston radio personality Sam Malone from 96.5 KHMX, appearances by Seuss characters Thing One and Thing Two, a Seuss inspired menu and captivating live and silent auctions.
At the very heart of this event is the belief that every child deserves a safe and permanent home. CAFB serves children in Fort Bend County whose lives have been torn apart by abuse or neglect through its two programs, Court Appointed Special Advocates and the Children’s Advocacy Center. With a force of more than180 program volunteers, CAFB touches the lives of more than 400 children each month.
As a non-profit agency, CAFB’s Board of Directors, staff and volunteers rely on community support to sustain and strengthen its mission. With the sponsor drive just gearing up, there are numerous opportunities to make a difference in the life of a child including supporting the CASA Gala by attending the event ($125/person for reservations), donating to the Silent Auction or becoming a sponsor (sponsorships range from $1500 to $10,000). If you are interested in becoming a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate™) or Children’s Advocacy Center volunteer, your chance is just around the corner. Volunteer Training begins April 19. Volunteer Candidates are asked to complete a 30-hour training class to learn how to best advocate in these sensitive and confidential cases. It may not be the easiest volunteer job around, but we can promise you it is the most rewarding.
