Strong Voices for Abused Children

18 September 2004

Efforts to speak on behalf of abused and neglected children continue to get stronger and stronger in Fort Bend County, especially with the help of new volunteers.

The ten-member class completed 30 hours of training to become Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of Child Advocates of Fort Bend (TX) (CAFB). Several completed additional course work in order to assist in the Childrens Advocacy Center. Upon the completion of their course work in August, the volunteers, before Honorable Judge Frank Bass of the Brazos River Valley Cluster Court, took an oath to provide a voice for abused children.

On average, CAFB serves 200 children each month and is very fortunate to be able to match a volunteer to every child who is in state custody. The primary goal of program volunteers is to look out for the best interest of the child. Too many children in Fort Bend live in a world of darkness, fear and indifference. Often times, it is the CAFB volunteer who remains the constant face in a childs life.

You too can speak on behalf of an abused and neglected child. Fall volunteer training begins Saturday, September 18 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It continues on Mondays and Thursdays beginning September 20 through October 11 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Interested persons must be 21 years of age and older, For more information call, 281-341-9955 ext. 257.
