New Community Advocates Strengthen the Fight Against Child Abuse

1 June 2004

The words “Hard Work and No pay” didn’t stop nine community residents from signing up to become volunteers of Child Advocates of Fort Bend, Texas. The words “Speak Up for a Child…You Will Make A Difference” stuck out in their minds and allowed them to successfully complete 30 hours of training. The Spring Volunteer Graduates were sworn in by Judge Frank Bass and join thousands of advocates nationwide in the fight against child abuse. At CAFB alone, there are more than 130 volunteers serving in the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) and the Children’s Advocacy Center (CAC) programs.

What kinds of people serve as CAFB Volunteers? People just like you. Being a CAFB Volunteer requires no advanced educational degree or legal expertise. But it does require special people who are 21 years of age or older with a concern for children and genuine desire to help our small victims. Are there easier opportunities in our community? Certainly. But none so vital and meaningful, as being a CAFB volunteer. For more information on how you can make a difference in the life of a child in crisis, call 281-341-9955 ext. 257.
